We are looking for a Markets and Sustainability Policy Officer to strengthen our Brussels-based team and support our work on energy storage, specialty graphite applications, sustainability, circularity, and industrial competitiveness.
The Role
Reporting to the Secretary General, you will lead ECGA’s work on markets (excluding steel), sustainability, and circularity issues affecting the advanced carbon and graphite industry. You will monitor EU policy developments, prepare advocacy materials, engage with policymakers and stakeholders, and coordinate ECGA’s committee activities. The position provides a unique opportunity to work at the heart of European policy-making while developing expertise in strategically important value chains.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyse, and report on EU policy and regulatory developments relevant to the advanced carbon and graphite industry, with a particular focus on energy storage, specialty graphite applications, sustainability, circularity, and industrial competitiveness.
- Draft position papers, briefing notes, consultation responses, and advocacy materials.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of ECGA’s advocacy strategy.
- Represent ECGA in meetings with EU institutions, industry stakeholders, partner associations, and other relevant organisations.
- Coordinate and support the activities of ECGA’s committees, fostering collaboration and consensus among members.
- Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and follow-up actions.
- Keep members informed through timely policy updates, newsletter contributions, and other communications.
- Support the organisation of conferences, meetings, and other stakeholder events.
Your Profile
- University degree in EU Affairs, Political Science, Law, Economics, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
- 2-4 years of relevant professional experience gained in an EU institution, consultancy, trade association, public affairs environment, industry organisation, or similar setting.
- Good understanding of EU decision-making processes and legislative procedures.
- Knowledge of, or strong interest in, one or more of the following areas: Critical Raw Materials policy/ Energy storage and battery value chains/ Graphite and advanced carbon materials/ Sustainability and circular economy policies/ Industrial and competitiveness policies.
- Strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills.
- Excellent command of English; additional European languages are an asset.
- Ability to build productive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Well organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a diplomatic and collaborative approach.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to develop expertise in new policy areas.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative and assume responsibility for projects.
